What is a Life Coach?
Let's start with what life coaches are not. Life coaches are not therapists, counselors, or other mental health professionals. Life coaches are not psychiatrists or consultants. They do not diagnose or merely advise for a fee.
What makes a life coach unique? The definition of life coaching is “a form of development in which a person called a life coach supports a learner or client in achieving a specific personal or professional goal.” Life coaches partner with their clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.
Life coaching is a relationship. Life coaching is a conversation that has a beginning, middle, and end which results in movement on the part of clients toward insight or action. Whether the client is seeking leadership development, life balance, or better relationships, their whole life is operating in the background of every coaching session. A whole-person, client-centered approach that means “all coaching is life coaching.”
